This is a good skill to have for despererate times, i had lots of undead around me, cast well of blood - summoned the minions and then cast death nova then selected them as they both died and killed everything around me :P

It also is the easiest of the animates to use as an energy battery - with 13+ Soul Reaping they generate energy. With minions up you effectively have spent nothing raising them, merely put the energy on hold till they die.

Do you know minions are terribly weak. I fought a lvl 13 bone minion and it does 13 damage to my puny elementarist. I was just laughing so hard trying to kill me.

They might be weak alone but that's not the point. Usually you have an whole army of minion, multiply that 13 damage by 5-10 and you have an awsome damage spell...

I have had upwards of 40 minions all lvl 12 and 17 effectivly between the minions and fiends. No one had to do anything the whole mission, just call a target and sit back, the monk healed me from using blood of the master and verata's sacrifice but well worth it, I was never low on mana and had a great time doing it. It got to the point we had so many people kept getting stuck in a heard of them. Its really quite a blast using the collectors bone staff with 20/20 death and loading up on minions non stop using high soul reaping. they may do little damage but when your surrounded by 30ish critters you die period. unless your built to take just that.

Thing about having multiple minions is that damage reduction plays a major role. SInce it is multiple small attacks, damage reduction effects each attack seperately. Like my warrior has a total of 7 reduction (3 from rune, 2 from ascalon, 2 from shield). Then if I had shielding hands on me, the minions would be doing about 0 damage each hit to me.

This is a good point. This skill works very well with Mark of Pain or Barbs. I don't believe it works with Order of Pain, since it says it only affects party members, not allies.

Until you start Death Nova - Taste of Death - cycle on them. You are now getting hit for 100+ damage every second. And you are stuck in middle of them, can't run away, cut off from your target. In other words, you are no longer a threat to anything, and can be taken down whenever it suits summoners whim...

And even that 0-1+ points of damage, which they might be doing thru your defenses will make you fall down. 40+, each with 1+ point of damage.. Thats ~12 seconds until you join their ranks.

Add Barbs, and they become really scary threat, which can cut thru anything in seconds.

And they are free. The fact that they generate more energy dying than they cost to raise with enough Soul Reaping makes them fine - I don't mind them being mediocre damage, short lived creatures - they only cost me a corpse, and they are walking bombs to boot.

I love this skill... The fact that they DO generate more mana than they use and can be used as bombs or tanks is highly effective.

My question is...

Anyone actually use a Minion Necro for PVP?

Whats a collector's staff? A staff from the collector? If so, from who?

Use Verata's sacrifice to refresh their life. I suppose Blood of the Master works, but that only affects surrounding minions.

This is a very effective skill even for secondary necromancers as it allows you to quite literally, solo any area where the monsters leave corpses.

They're not meant to last long - they are a nice source of death for energy and for death novae. I think any build using Minions rather than Horrors or Fiends is likely banking on things like Barbs and Mark of Pain that trigger per attack, and effects like death nova that trigger on death.

Minions as bombs are awsome! There was one time when I was surrounded by like 6 jungle trolls, well I had like 4-5 minions that all went off simultaneously. It was a beautiful sight. Everything on the screen but me, dead. Wish I had got a screenshot.

The biggest downside to minion bombs is if you die, nova kills your team. Then they get mad at you and don't ress you lol :P.

I think it's pretty obvious that minions are meant for easy upkeep via high level soul reaping. When you find one corpse, you have an easy 100 damage by using Death Nova on both minions and having them explode on your target.

There is a boss right outside of the gate of kryta (pretty sure that's where, wherever I use to go on drake runs). He alternates with an ele boss and I think one other, so you may have to go out a couple times to get it. I believe you buy it from the trainer in droknars if you are that far.
